New Ohio Web Library site

The Ohio Web Library now has a new website, http://ohioweblibrary.org. If you are still using an outdated version of Internet Explorer, you may need to update your browser to see the new site.

A lot of changes have been made to the software that runs the site, so it now runs faster and provides a cleaner list of search results. We also have more control over the weighting of search results, which means we can put some custom links at the top of the list when someone does a common search. (Try a search for "legal forms" for example.)

2013 Stakeholders Meeting

The 2013 Stakeholders Meeting,  our annual report to Ohio public libraries (our "stakeholders"), will take place on Wednesday, October 9 from 1:15 – 2:15 p.m. at the Ohio Library Council's Convention and Expo held at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio. OPLIN staff will review what has happened over the past year and take a peek at the future.

new! Network Testing Service

While OPLIN's responsibility for Internet connection management ends with the OPLIN router placed at the library end of OPLIN-provided circuits, it is not uncommon for libraries to have internal network issues that affect the throughput capacity of their Internet connection. These problems sometimes come to light in conversations with libraries or in the course of monitoring OPLIN network performance, and over the years OPLIN staff have more and more frequently assisted local library IT staff with some problem solving.

Changes to Ohio Web Library resources

The State Library of Ohio has awarded a $1.6 million federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) LSTA grant to Libraries Connect Ohio (LCO) to support the purchase of statewide resources in the Ohio Web Library collection for the next fiscal year (July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014). The Libraries Connect Ohio committee, composed of members from INFOhio, OhioLINK, OPLIN, and the State Library, negotiated with vendors for the next five years of Ohio Web Library databases because the current five-year contracts expired at the end of June.
