new! Network Testing Service

While OPLIN's responsibility for Internet connection management ends with the OPLIN router placed at the library end of OPLIN-provided circuits, it is not uncommon for libraries to have internal network issues that affect the throughput capacity of their Internet connection. These problems sometimes come to light in conversations with libraries or in the course of monitoring OPLIN network performance, and over the years OPLIN staff have more and more frequently assisted local library IT staff with some problem solving.

Changes to Ohio Web Library resources

The State Library of Ohio has awarded a $1.6 million federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) LSTA grant to Libraries Connect Ohio (LCO) to support the purchase of statewide resources in the Ohio Web Library collection for the next fiscal year (July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014). The Libraries Connect Ohio committee, composed of members from INFOhio, OhioLINK, OPLIN, and the State Library, negotiated with vendors for the next five years of Ohio Web Library databases because the current five-year contracts expired at the end of June.

New OPLIN Board members

At their meeting this morning, the State Library Board filled four vacancies on the OPLIN Board resulting from member terms expiring on June 30, 2013.

One member whose term is expiring is eligible for another term and is willing to serve; the OPLIN bylaws and O.R.C. 3375.65 allow board members to serve for two full terms, and so the State Library Board reappointed Jamie Mason, Deputy Director of Rocky River Public Library, to a second three-year term.

New Explore Ohio Interface (UPDATE: Explore Ohio is no longer available)

UPDATE: Please note that OPLIN ceased production of this resource. It is no longer available as of June 30, 2016.

For many years, OPLIN has been collecting links to websites with information about Ohio and posting them at the Explore Ohio website, http://exploreohio.org. To date, we have well over 12,000 links to sites covering everything from Ohio government to Ohio family activities. We are happy to announce that Explore Ohio now has a new look and new search functionality, to make it easier to find the links you want.
